These products play a crucial role across the entire emergency communication spectrum, handling everything from the initiation of emergency calls to the delivery of final alerts.

Swissphone's solutions are widely utilized in various fields, including emergency services (blue light organizations), public authorities, healthcare, industrial and financial sectors.

As a market leader in the field of secure alerting, Swissphone also operates a variety of service platforms. These platforms cater to specific needs such as lone worker protection, emergency solutions, and critical messaging.

The team is always proactive, and this is something usually missing from engineering people.

Objectives

Swissphone had already begun developing s.ONE, a sophisticated software solution for resource management, when they started looking for a software development partner. This solution aimed to enhance their existing suite of communication and alerting systems.

Binary Studio was selected due to a strong alignment with the company's culture and values and its demonstrated capability to deliver high-quality, cost-efficient solutions.

With Binary Studio on board, Swissphone aimed to achieve the following main objectives for the s.ONE project:

    Implementation of a resource management platform

    The primary goal was to develop s.ONE into a fully-functional platform that could efficiently handle resource management tasks for emergencies and other critical scenarios.

    Customization to meet evolving customer needs

    Recognizing that each customer's requirements are unique, a major objective was to ensure that the s.ONE platform could be customized according to specific user needs. This involved developing flexible and adaptable features that could cater to a wide range of operational tasks.

Solution and Outcome

  • Binary Studio has been collaborating with Swissphone as the core development team for the s.ONE platform. We began by developing the main functionality and have since shifted our focus to enhancing and expanding the platform in response to user requests and use cases.
  • Our team is actively involved in the requirements gathering phase, assisting the product owner to design features efficiently. Following this, we document the architectural decisions, estimate the required effort and provide a development roadmap.
  • We adopt agile methods in our work, planning sprints and releases with Swissphone. Regular communication is maintained through daily sync meetings, ensuring smooth coordination and timely progress.

  • Stage 1

    The s.ONE platform is a comprehensive project, built upon a microservice-inspired architecture. It includes a backend system for event processing and a desktop client for managing rescue operations. The main functionality is accessible through the desktop application. Currently, we are developing a Web GUI that will enable users to view information in a browser.

    The platform's structure includes several modules, providing the following core functionalities:

    • Message retrieval from various devices. Initially supporting only Swissphone pagers, the platform has been updated to receive messages from a wider range of devices. Due to the recent architecture updates, the platform now can be easily adapted for supporting various communication systems and IoT sensors, such as thermal, movement, etc.
    • Notification system. The system is able to send notifications to users' devices through various channels. It also integrates with other Swissphone systems for more effective coordination.
    • Device feedback monitoring. The platform displays real-time updates of emergency situations, showing incident locations on maps and the status of emergency personnel's responses and tasks, aiding in efficient management.
    • Remote pager configuration and programming. s.ONE manages and generates configuration data for pagers. Data is transferred to by a separate programming application through an API endpoint in order to update the devices.
  • Stage 2

    Swissphone has seen rising market interest in its s.ONE resource management solution due to the proven reliability of the platform. This increased demand from the target market has prompted further ongoing development and enhancements for the platform's capabilities.

    One of the key factors in the s.ONE platform's reliability is the comprehensive testing process. We conduct in-depth branch testing and pre-release integration testing, supplemented by automated tests for optimal coverage. Along with functional tests we use performance tests to emulate real life load on the system to make sure smooth operation in production.

    Understanding the unique needs of organizations that rely on rescue management solutions is crucial to our approach. We maintain direct communication with users of the s.ONE platform, enabling us to grasp their specific requirements and challenges. By actively responding to their feedback, we tailor the s.ONE platform to meet each customer's unique needs, ensuring it consistently addresses their specific demands.

    Furthermore, we are committed to continuous improvement. Recent updates include enhanced server-side performance and streamlined code, aligning with modern technical standards and requirements.
